What rug shearing does
Over time, the pile of a rug wears unevenly. Busy areas get shorter, loose fibers rise as fuzz, and the tips of the yarn fray and dull the colors. Shearing trims the whole surface to one even height, which removes the fuzz and the worn tips and makes the pattern look sharp again.
Shearing is done with care and only when the rug has enough pile to spare. We look at the rug first, recommend how much to take off, and always shear after a full wash, so the result is clean and even.
How rug shearing works
- Pickup: We pick up the rug from your home. Pickup and delivery are free across Miami-Dade and Broward.
- Assessment: We measure the pile and check whether the rug can be sheared, and how much.
- Full wash: The rug is washed and dried before shearing, so the pile stands up straight.
- Shearing and finish: The pile is trimmed to an even height and groomed, then the rug is inspected and delivered.
When shearing is not the right choice
Thin or very worn rugs do not have enough pile to shear, and some antique and flat-woven rugs should not be sheared at all. In those cases we will tell you honestly and suggest other options, such as repair or reweaving.
